the red sari

Sahib is a word I didn't know the meaning of and now I know that is is a form of address that is polite to a man.

a quote that shows the difference between the two country's is " It's common they say, for parents to cut off the fingers and even limbs of their children so children can go and beg"

He wanted us to understand that life can be very different in different country's

He shows us to appreciate other people by showing us the hardships other country's have to go through .

yellow brick road

Pre reading questions

Witi Ihimaera is from the place known as Gisborne. Five of his works have been made into movies including Whale Rider, Kawa, White lies, Mahana and  Déwé Gorodé : Écrire Le Pays.

I think the yellow brick road is like the journey to happiness and success.

I predict this story is about a person's pursuits of happiness and success.

Post reading questions

The narrator believes that they are moving to wellington so they can live a better life as that's where the moneys is at. The people are different in wellington they are more cold hearted but in Waituhi they are more friendly and are willing to help. Dad had told Uncle Sam that they were moving to Wellington so they can have a new start for their kids. The narrators attitude changes because he see's signs that started to freak him out as he started to see that not all that glitters is gold.

DNA experiment

In science we did an experiment where we extracted DNA from a kiwi fruit this was a pretty fun experiment which a fair few of steps and ingredients.

  Ingredients

  1. kiwifruit
  2. knife
  3. snap lock bag
  4. alcohol/cleaning meths
  5. dish detergent
  6. water
  7. test tube
  8. cloth
  9. beaker/cup
  10. ice block stick
 Methods
  1. Cut up kiwifruit leave out skin and middle bit
  2. Put kiwifruit, water and dish detergent in snap lock bag
  3. squish ingredients in bag until its not solid
  4. filter kiwifruit so there's only liquid in the beaker
  5. Pour liquid into a test tube
  6. put some alcohol or cleaning meths into test tube
  7. let it sit for a bit
  8. put ice block in the test tube
  9. stir the mixture around for a bit
  10. take the ice block stick out of test tube and you will be left with a residue which is the DNA of the kiwifruit

Re-creating of the past

In these clips we can see soldiers discovering a concentration camp. These soldiers see the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps as they see malnourished Jews and decomposing body's of dead Jews. They were in shock and disbelief as it looked like a bunch of very sick and very skinny people just walking around. This would have a huge impact on the soldiers as it was a very disturbing scene for anyone to see.  Later on we see all these lifeless body's getting buried in mass unmarked graves which these horrors could have long lasting effects on soldiers. How does evidence in this document show that “Kristallnacht” was planned in advance of the event actually happening?

TO ALL REGIONAL AND SUB-REGIONAL GESTAPO OFFICES

sent at 1:20AM, November 8, 1938

SUBJECT: MEASURES AGAINST THE JEWS THIS NIGHT
That only such measures were to be taken that would not endanger German lives or property (e.g. the burning of synagogues was only to be carried out if there was no danger of fire spreading to the surrounding district).  Businesses and residences of Jews may be damaged but not looted. Particular care is to be paid in business sections and surrounding streets. Non-Jewish businesses are to be protected from damage under all circumstances. Police are to seize all archives from synagogues and offices of community organizations, this refers to material of historical significance. Archives are to be handed over to the SS. As soon as possible, officials are to arrest as many Jews especially wealthy ones - in all districts as can be accommodated in existing cells. For the time being, only healthy male Jews of not too advanced age are to be arrested.

 Signed by Reinhard Heydrich,
SS Gruppenfürer

This is evidence that Kristallnacht was a planned event as this letter was written a day before Kristallnacht happened early in the morning. It was also planned as they would have been thinking about what to do to the Jews and what type they wanted to arrest young healthy males. This letter was written early in the morning the day before disaster struck.
